Kei te kimi mātau i tētahi tangata, he kaha ki te whakahoahoa, he mōhio ki te whakarite me te whakahaere kaupapa ako, ā, he mātau ki te whakatutuki whāinga. Ka riro māna e arataki te whakaakoranga me te akoranga i Te Kura Māori mā te awhi me te whakawhanake i ngā hōtaka auaha. Ka tautāwhi hoki ia i ngā pūnaha me ngā tukanga o te kuratini. Ka hāpai, ka whakaū i ngā tikanga Māori ki roto i te kura me te hiki i te mauri o te whakahaere. Me ahua matatau ia ki te reo Māori me ngā tikanga Māori, tau ana te tū i te ao Māori.

Toi Ohomai delivers quality vocational education and training to both domestic and international students, across five main campuses in Rotorua, Tauranga, Taupō, Tokoroa and Whakatāne, and 68 delivery sites across the wider Bay of Plenty and South Waikato. Toi Ohomai is now a subsidiary organisation for NZ Institute of Skills & Technology (working name) and part of a transformational change unifying all 16 Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics across Aotearoa; together with other work-based, provider-based and online learning. Collectively we will be NZ’s largest tertiary education provider with national and regional reach enabling learners and employers to move between workplaces and other educational offerings and between locations as their needs change.

The Academic Leader role may be based at our Rotorua or Tauranga campus and will be expected to travel between campuses. The role is both stimulating and multi-dimensional and the successful applicant will be leading our Te Kura Māori (TKM) team and supporting Foundation programmes to ensure we are delivering viable and sustainable tertiary education in the wider Bay of Plenty and South Waikato. The successful applicant will also contribute to the teaching of TKM programmes.

We have an established network of stakeholders, industry partners that support our education and training. Growing these and establishing new partnerships with industry, iwi, hapū, whānau and other stakeholders will be a key part of this exciting new role.

Reporting to the Associate Dean - Te Kura Māori and Foundation, this role will contribute significantly to the future of Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga in Aotearoa by:

  • Providing excellent professional education. 

The skills, experience and qualifications required for this role include:

  • Minimum Bachelors degree level qualification in a related field, preferably to Masters level
  • Knowledge and understanding of Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga, preferably fluent 
  • Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Experience teaching at tertiary level, including online delivery
  • Ability to work with diverse cultures.

In addition, key to your success in this role will be your demonstrated ability to effectively lead teams of people across regions, communicate and report to team and management, meet all academic processes and regulatory requirements, develop high quality programmes and understand the tertiary learning environment and learner needs.
