Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whātua is the sole representative body and authorised voice of the iwi of Ngāti Whātua. The Rūnanga operates a health and wellbeing arm under the name of Te Hā Oranga, that works alongside District Health Boards to influence Māori health gain across the tribal district. Te Hā Oranga exists as a Māori Health Provider and is committed to Kaupapa Māori Tikanga and Principals. Our organisation works closely with Puawaitahi – a multi-agency centre which brings together the three key statutory agencies involved in specialist child abuse investigation (ADHB / Starship, Oranga Tamariki, and Police). We are looking for an experienced Kaiāwhina to be based at Puawaitahi, who is looking for a career opportunity that is challenging and exciting.
About the role
This role will involve working as part of the Puawaitahi team to provide a service that is responsive to the cultural needs of tamariki and their whānau. The kaiāwhina will assist tamariki, rangatahi and whānau to be supported during their visit to Puawaitahi as well as provide follow-up support – working with whānau (victims, perpetrators and children at risk) in accordance with their aspirations and needs.

• is able to work within an inter-agency framework with a focus on professional collaborative interventions for whānau.
To be considered for this role it is essential you
• have at least 5 years relevant work experience working with tamariki, rangatahi and whānau
• Have experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, in particular Māori and Pacifica, and working with whānau groups
• have demonstrated knowledge and experience of health and / or social services
• have at least three years of secondary education
• have obtained NZ police vetting clearance
• be eligible to work in New Zealand.
And preferable you
• Have a relevant tertiary qualification.
• A clean current driver’s license.
• Demonstrated experience in child protection.
• Knowledge of child protection and criminal justice processes.
• Fluency in Te Reo Māori.
• Experience working in or with Māori providers.
• Knowledge of Ngāti Whātua and the local community.
• Display excellent cultural competency and specific knowledge of models and frameworks specific to Māori and Pacifika participants.
