- National service for children in care
- Advocacy, support and engagement
- Voluntary/small stipend available
At VOYCE we believe children and young people in care need to be heard and their voices kept at the centre of all the decisions made about them. Our name embodies our intent, which is to provide an independent voice from children and young people to the care system, rather than an adult voice for them.
We were created alongside, but independently from, Oranga Tamariki as a non-government advocacy and support service. We work closely with a wide range of stakeholders across government, community and other advocacy groups and proactive engagement with these stakeholder groups will be essential to our success. We have offices across the country providing a range of advocacy and support services, working closely with mana whenua in each rohe.
As a board we work with challenging strategic issues facing children in care. Our Trustees are committed and contribute from a wide range of backgrounds and skills. VOYCE has grown fast and has a committed engaged board and high performing executive.
For our next set of appointments we are looking for Trustees who reflect our strategic priorities and who:
- have governance or senior leadership experience
- have lived experience of the care system
- have strong connections to Māori communities
- are able to work well with young people from care experienced backgrounds and provide mentorship
Meetings are monthly, usually on the last Wednesday evening of the month. They are held in Auckland but there is the option for Trustees to attend via Skype. Appointments will be for an initial 3-year term. Induction and support for board members in this unique environment will be provided.
