We're now on the lookout for a Team Leader, Financial Planning and Policy to join our Financial Planning and Partnering team and play a key role in shaping the city's financial future. From long-term planning and funding strategies to policy development and scenario modelling, you'll be at the heart of some of Wellington's most important decisions.
Āu ake mahi - What you'll do
Reporting directly to the Manager Financial Planning and Partnering, you'll have the trust, autonomy, and support to make this role your own. We're looking for someone who brings fresh thinking and brings their authentic self to work every day. You'll be empowered to lead, innovate, and influence, while knowing you have the backing of an experienced and collaborative leadership team around you.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Providing the financial elements of the Annual and the Long-term Plans
- Leading a high-performing team of financial planning and policy specialists
- Developing high-quality financial policies to meet Council objectives
- Driving Pōneke's long-term financial planning, forecasting, and modelling
- Shaping funding, revenue, rates, and financial policies
- Providing trusted strategic advice to senior leaders
To thrive in this role, you'll be a strategic thinker who enjoys tackling complex challenges, leading through influence, and turning data into meaningful insights that drive decision-making. You'll bring significant leadership experience (10+ years) in financial planning, policy, economics, or a related field, along with a proven ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
You'll have experience leading complex policy development programmes, navigating ambiguity, and delivering high-quality outcomes in a dynamic environment. An understanding of the statutory and regulatory framework within which local government operates will be highly regarded. Experience working in local government and membership with CAANZ would be advantageous, but not essential.
