Āu ake mahi - What you'll do
We are on the lookout for enthusiastic and reliable people to join our team of lifeguards at the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre (WRAC) Kilbirnie. These roles are all about helping to operate our pools, keep people safe and making sure everyone has a great time in and around the water.
WRAC is a large, multi-purpose aquatic centre that includes a 50m indoor pool, diving pool, toddlers' pool and spray water-play area, programmes pool, hydrotherapy pool, gym, spas and saunas. The pool also hosts high-performance training, regional swim meets, national and international events and a wide range of community programmes.

We currently have one full-time Lifeguard position available. This role will be on a rotating roster across three weeks (total of 120 hours) so you must be available to work early starts (from 5am), late finishes (up to 10.30pm) and weekend work. As public transport does not always align with our shift start times, you'll need to have reliable transport to get to and from work.
We're looking for responsible, reliable and motivated individuals looking to join a fun team while also ensuring the Pōneke community have a safe and enjoyable time using our facility.

Ngā tohu me ngā wheako - Qualifications and experience
You will have excellent verbal communication skills and enjoy providing customer care to help build trust with our pool users. You will be a keen learner as we will provide all the training you will require to thrive in this role.
As part of your training, you'll gain the following qualifications at a minimum:
- First Aid Level 2 Certificate
- Pool Life Saving Practicing Certificate
Previous lifeguarding or aquatic work experience will help but is by no means necessary. We are looking for people who want to make a difference for our customers and help keep our facilities operating at the highest level.
Our starting salary for full-time Lifeguards is $62,780 per annum.

Pre-employment checks
All employees must undergo a Criminal Conviction Check, the results of which will be held on your employee file if employed, and be prepared to obtain and maintain a Police Vetting check.
Please note this role is safety sensitive and will require you to undergo pre-employment drug and alcohol, and health testing, the results of which will be held on your employee file if successful.
The Council uses the AS/NZ drug standard to determine the cut off levels for drug testing. Some prescription drugs may be included within this standard.
