Ko wai mātou? | About Ngāti Tumutumu Trust

Ngāti Tumutumu Trust has recently entered an exciting new chapter following the settlement of their historical Treaty claims. As the Trust looks to the future, its focus is on protecting and growing its assets, building enduring partnerships, and delivering positive outcomes for current and future generations.

Grounded in whakapapa, tikanga and a deep commitment to its people. The Trust is building an organisation that reflects the aspirations of its uri while creating opportunities that will benefit generations to come. Working within a small, dedicated team, you'll have the opportunity to contribute across many areas of the organisation and see the direct impact of your work every day.

Te tūranga | The opportunity

Reporting directly to the General Manager, this newly created role is broad and varied and combines executive support, governance coordination, operations and project support. You will coordinate organisational activities, support strategic priorities, represent the General Manager at hui where appropriate, liaise with stakeholders, and provide support that enables the wider organisation to succeed.

You will become the central point of coordination across the organisation - someone who ensures priorities remain on track, commitments are delivered, and the General Manager is well supported to focus on strategic leadership. This role isn't about sitting behind a desk waiting for instructions. It's about anticipating what's needed, solving problems, building relationships and helping create an organisation that runs efficiently and effectively. You will work closely with Trustees, whānau, iwi partners, contractors, funders and external stakeholders, and become a trusted and respected member of the wider team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the General Manager to coordinate organisational priorities and day-to-day operations.
  • Coordinate Board and governance meetings, including agendas, papers, and minutes.
  • Attend meetings on behalf of the General Manager where appropriate, recording discussions and ensuring agreed actions are followed through.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, correspondence and organisational documentation.
  • Coordinate projects, meetings and organisational initiatives across the Trust.
  • Manage diaries, travel arrangements and general office duties.
  • Build positive relationships with Trustees, whānau, iwi partners, contractors and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain records and organisational systems.
  • Support the wider team across operational activities as required.
  • Manage confidential information with professionalism, integrity and sound judgement.

Ko wai koe? | About you

You will be naturally organised, proactive and adaptable, with the confidence to work independently while supporting a busy General Manager across a broad range of responsibilities.

You will thrive in this role if you:

  • Like solving problems before they become problems.
  • Take ownership and naturally follow things through to completion.
  • Enjoy building trusted relationships with people from all walks of life.
  • Are equally comfortable preparing Board papers, attending governance meetings and helping coordinate organisational projects.
  • Can juggle multiple priorities without losing sight of the details.
  • Enjoy working in a collaborative, kaupapa Māori, values-driven environment.

Ideally, you'll also bring:

  • Experience supporting senior leaders, governance or organisational operations.
  • Strong governance administration experience, including agendas, minutes and action tracking.
  • Excellent organisational and project coordination skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication.
  • High levels of professionalism, discretion and initiative.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and digital systems capability.
  • An appreciation of te ao Māori, reo me ōna tikanga.

While experience working within kaupapa Māori environments would be advantageous, we are equally interested in people who demonstrate genuine respect for te ao Māori and are committed to contributing positively within a kaupapa driven, iwi organisation.
