Due to one of our kaimahi going on parental leave, we have an exciting opportunity to join our Community Partnerships team as a Community Lease Advisor on a fixed-term contract until the end of January 2027.
We are also open to kaimahi in central government applying for this opportunity as a secondment from your current agency.
Āu ake mahi - What you'll do
Sitting within our Community Partnerships team, as part of our wider Parks and Open Spaces business unit, you will work alongside another advisor to manage around 160 community recreation leases and licences across Pōneke.
You will assess applications, prepare reports, build relationships with leaseholders, and ensure the portfolio is managed in line with Council policy and strategy.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking lease management activities such as the negotiation of leases, renewals and licences, for community lease in accordance with legislation, including the Reserves Act 1977, Local Government Act 1974 and 2002, and Property Law Act 2007
- Supporting any public consultation and engagement required for community leases and licences
- Building exceptional relationships with leaseholders, regional organisations and community groups
- Conducting rent reviews, lease renewals, and compliance monitoring whilst providing solutions to lease-related issues
- Driving continuous improvement in lease and licence systems and processes, contributing to a culture of innovation
Ngā tohu me ngā wheako - Qualifications and experience
We're looking for someone who will bring:
- Ability to quickly build capability in lease management
- Experience working or volunteering with community organisations, and a practical understanding of how they operate
- An understanding of local government decision-making processes, including preparing reports and working through formal approval pathways
- An ability to work autonomously and problem solve
- Sound understanding of relevant legislation relating to land and buildings
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and exceptional relationship building skills to engage with diverse stakeholders in our community
