Kia mahi ngātahi mō Pōneke mō tōna āpōpō - Working together for Wellington's future

Our much-loved Senior Administrator is heading off on maternity leave, and we’re looking for an organised, people-focused administrator extraordinaire to step in and keep SwimWell running at its best. This role is central to ensuring that our swim school operates smoothly across our Wellington pools, supporting thousands of children and caregivers who rely on our year-round programmes. If you enjoy variety, care about community wellbeing and thrive in a fast-paced, relationship-driven environment, this role could be your next great step.

This position is available either as a fixed-term role or an internal secondment opportunity for current Wellington City Council employees looking to expand their skills and experience. This is a fixed-term opportunity to May 2027.

Ngā Taipitopito Tūranga - Role details

As the Senior Aquatic Education Administrator, you will oversee the full recruitment, onboarding and training journey for our SwimWell employees. You’ll work closely with HR Services, Talent Acquisition, the Aquatic Programmes Manager and Team Leaders to ensure we have the right people, with the right qualifications, in the right place at the right time. This includes everything from screening applicants and completing pre-employment checks to coordinating inductions and maintaining accurate training and qualification records. You’ll also play a key role in implementing health and safety training frameworks and may deliver some training sessions yourself.

The role is hands-on and varied. At times you will step in to support programme delivery by assisting with planning, evaluating and improving lessons, ensuring consistent programme quality and excellent communication with caregivers.

Ngā tohu me ngā wheako - Qualifications and experience

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring strong administrative capability, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the confidence to coordinate recruitment, training and programme activity across multiple facilities. You’ll be highly organised, adaptable and comfortable working both independently and as part of a busy, supportive team. Experience in recruitment, training coordination or recreation environments is helpful, and knowledge of learn-to-swim programmes is an advantage, but not essential.

Nōu te rourou - What's in it for you

Working for the Council offers you a range of benefits including 5 weeks annual leave, flexible working options, health and wellbeing support, Council staff discounts and a range of learning and development programmes and opportunities.
