Are you passionate about making library collections more discoverable and accessible? We’re looking for a skilled cataloguer to join our collaborative team and help shape how our diverse collections are described and accessed by our community.

As a Cataloguer, you’ll apply your expertise to the variety and challenges of managing collections in a large public library. Your day to day work will involve creating catalogue records for new library materials and enhancing access to existing collection items. While there’s a strong focus on non-fiction, you’ll work across all collection areas, including specialist formats such as Music, World Languages, eResources, and zines.

You’ll be part of a supportive team that values innovation, collaboration, and keeping the end user at the heart of everything we do.

You will have strong attention to detail, as well as a commitment to keeping up with changes in the wider cataloguing world.

This role is based at Te Matapihi Library in the CBD.

Ngā tohu me ngā wheako - Qualifications and experience

  • A Diploma in Library and Information Studies (Level 5) or equivalent, ideally with study in metadata
  • At least three years’ experience in cataloguing and classification, including:
    • Original cataloguing across different languages and formats
    • Familiarity with Catalogue NZ and its contribution workflows
    • Experience cataloguing non-traditional formats, such as zines
    • Knowledge and application of Ngā Upoko Tukutuku (Māori Subject Headings)
  • Previous experience in front-line customer service, with a strong customer focus that informs your technical work
  • Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to learning and applying cataloguing standards and tools
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work with a range of people to meet standards and apply new ideas

We are looking to appoint from $76,778 per annum, for this role, depending on relevant skills and experience.
