InternetNZ are seeking an experienced Communications Manager to lead the organisation’s communications function and guide a small, capable team. This role will suit a senior communications professional who can bring strategic clarity, strong people and risk leadership, and a passion for storytelling.
What you’ll do:
The Communications Manager leads all communications across the InternetNZ Group (InternetNZ and the Domain Name Commission). This includes brand, media, digital channels, publications, insights, and organisational messaging. A key focus will be strengthening the Group’s brand and identity, executing the organisational-wide communications strategy, and supporting marketing of .nz. The role also carries responsibility for protecting and enhancing the organisation’s reputation, ensuring communications reflect Te Ao Māori perspectives, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and our Internet community.
This is a hands-on leadership role that has both strategic and operational components.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of communications professionals.
- Oversee the organisation-wide communications
- Act as brand guardian for InternetNZ, the Domain Name Commission, and product brands
- Support marketing strategies for .nz
- Lead media activity, proactive communications, and crisis communications
- Oversee all channels — website, newsletters, publications, social media, and outreach materials
- Lead the annual Internet Insights research and media engagement
- Deliver the annual reports and key organisational publications
- Provide communications leadership across major projects and partnerships
Key Requirements:
- 7+ years’ experience in communications, with some experience in marketing or public relations
- Proven experience managing and mentoring communications teams.
- Strong narrative and storytelling skills
- Confidence working with media and supporting spokespeople
- Experience developing and delivering communications strategies
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- A collaborative, inclusive leadership style
- Commitment to accessible communication and culturally grounded practice
