Wellington City Council
Customer Services Librarian - Wellington Branch Library Network
Multiple roles available - choose the hours that suit you!
Kia mahi ngātahi mō Pōneke mō tōna āpōpō - Working together for Wellington's future
We’re looking for passionate and community-minded individuals to join our Library whānau as Customer Services Librarians.
Our branch libraries play a vital role in supporting and connecting our communities. Each branch is a welcoming space where people of all ages come to learn, discover, create, and connect. These roles offer the opportunity to help shape how we deliver great service and meaningful experiences every day in neighbourhood libraries across the city.
As a Customer Services Librarian, you'll assist people from all walks of life to access a wide range of digital and physical services, collections, information, and social connection opportunities. You'll work collaboratively, normally without onsite Team Leader support, so confidence, initiative, adaptability, and teamwork are essential. This is a busy hands-on role that requires personal resilience, physical fitness and a flexible approach to work to support the broader team and network needs.
We have multiple positions available with a variety of rostered hours to suit different lifestyles and commitments. Positions are based in a grouping of libraries in the same area (North, West or South/Eastern suburbs). These are known as branch 'clusters' and staff appointed to a cluster work at the facilities across that group. We encourage you to apply and select the roster(s) that interest you in the application form. Please see the attached list of available roles.
Ngā tohu me ngā wheako - Qualifications and experience
You'll bring at least two years of experience in a challenging customer or community service environment, this could include hospitality, busy retail, help-desk or call centre roles, or early childcare and teaching. You'll be confident using a range of online tools, social media, and digital technologies, and ideally have research skills gained through education or previous work. Familiarity with public library services is a plus, whether through work or as a customer, but previous public library experience is not required. People skills are our priority, library knowledge and qualifications can be attained once in the role. A basic understanding of Te Ao Māori and willingness to learn Te Reo could be an advantage. Similarly any cultural language and knowledge that may help us connect with our diverse communities could be an advantage.
We are looking to appoint from $66,735 per annum, for this role, depending on relevant skills and experience.
Nōu te rourou - What's in it for you
Working for the Council offers you a range of benefits including 5 weeks annual leave, flexible working options, health and wellbeing support, Council staff discounts and a range of learning and development programmes and opportunities.
