About us:
The National Hauora Coalition (NHC) is a proudly Māori organisation with a strong whakapapa in advancing whānau ora. Formed in 2007 and restructured in 2012, NHC operates through a charitable Trust (the sole shareholder) and a Company Board that governs its operational arm, National Hauora Coalition Limited.
NHC is a PHO, Whānau Ora commissioning agency, and a thought leader in developing social investment models, commissioning arrangements, and indigenous models of care. Our kaupapa and pou tikanga place whānau at the heart of everything we do, guided by the vision Mana Whānau, Whānau Ora - Prosperous Whānau Living Well.
About the Role:
The Board of National Hauora Coalition Limited, Chaired by Dame Paula Rebstock, is responsible for the governance and strategic oversight of the organisation. There is an honorarium and travel expenses are covered. Directors are appointed by the Trust and collectively ensure that NHC achieves its kaupapa and strategic plan.
As a Board Director, you will:
- Provide strategic governance that upholds NHC’s kaupapa, pou tikanga values, and vision.
- Oversee organisational performance, financial sustainability, and risk management.
- Support and hold the Chief Executive accountable, including appointment and performance management processes (with Trust endorsement).
- Contribute to the development and approval of the Annual Business Plan, Annual Budget, and long-term Strategic Plan.
- Represent NHC positively, building relationships that advance whānau-centred outcomes.
About you:
You are a values-driven leader who understands kaupapa Māori governance and the importance of whānau-centred practice. You bring integrity, strategic insight, and governance experience to the Board table. You will turn up in person to meetings and be prepared to contribute, including Committee involvement.
You will demonstrate:
- Strong alignment with NHC’s kaupapa, mission, and values.
- Governance or senior leadership experience, ideally in kaupapa Māori or hauora-related contexts.
- Expertise in finance and one or more of the following areas: risk, iwi engagement, hauora social investment, commissioning, or health sector leadership.
- High ethical standards, sound judgement, and a commitment to consensus-based decision-making.
- The ability to contribute constructively to collective governance and maintain strong relationships with the Trust, fellow Directors, and kaimahi.
