We are looking for an assistant Gardener to join our team to help ensure our Wellington Botanic Gardens are in kept in tip-top shape. You can't beat working in the garden, especially on a nice day! Our fantastic horticulture team get to do it year-round and are now looking for a keen gardening enthusiast to join them in maintaining the beautiful gardens at Wellington Botanic Garden.
The Botanic Gardens team delivers a high-quality visitor experience through excellence in horticulture and its contribution to conservation, environmental education and to the health and welfare of the community.
The team delivers exceptional service to our city, our community and the visitors by taking care of our awesome spaces! The purpose of the role is to be part of the team to deliver horticultural maintenance in the plant collections and transition gardens within the Wellington Botanic Garden including the Begonia House Collections, Truby King Park and Bolton Street Cemetery. We are looking for someone with gardening experience and a willingness to learn, but most importantly you will need to be a team player and self-motivated, be able to communicate effectively and verbal communication skills.
The Horticulture team is out and about no matter what the weather is, so you must have the ability to work in all weather and temperature conditions and be physically fit and able.

Our ideal candidate will also have the relevant experience, skills, and also a passion and flair. A good level of fitness and agility, the ability to work unsupervised and follow health and safety requirements, motivation to do a great job and commitment to best practice is a must!
A minimum qualification of Advanced Certificate in Amenity Horticulture L3 or equivalent experience would be great, a Growsafe certificate would be a bonus! And you should have a current Driver's licence (HT drivers' licence preferable).
The role is full time 40 hours per week, between the hours of 7.30am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, weekend hours and overtime as required.
