Senior Commercial Manager
NZ Post
Mō te Tukurau Aotearoa - About NZ Post Ever wondered about the magic behind parcel delivery? It's a tale of teamwork, cutting-edge technology & data-led procurement & some truly awesome people. All united by one mission - to deliver for New Zealand. Taking a business which handles over 700 million letters & parcels every year, delivering to more than 1.9 million homes, businesses, rural delivery addresses & private boxes around the country & making it fit for the future.
Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
This is a critical, high-visibility role, united in one commercial goal, the team is divided into 3 categories, Corporate & Property, Digital & Tech and Customer & International
This is a role for a genuinely senior practitioner, managing a complex fleet of planes, trucks, e-bikes, and more, as well as high-volume packaging and contingent labour. The role demands a generalist with deep fleet and supply chain expertise, strong stakeholder influence and the ability to lead already ingrained. With a focus on consolidation, cost control, and immediate returns, procurement at NZ Post blends government frameworks with commercial agility.
Mōu - About you
- Strong generalist procurement experience, ideally with exposure to fleet, logistics, supply chain or professional services.
- Strong business partnering capability – you're embedded in the sourcing phase and expected to guide stakeholders through it to ensure effective contract management.
- Commercial acumen – operating under AoG contracts where suitable but not bound to them. This is a SOE with a private sector operating rhythm with a board, shareholders, and a commercial mandate.
- Experience balancing public sector expectations (e.g. OIA obligations) with private sector pragmatism – relationship-driven, not template-driven.
- Leadership mindset – no direct reports but strong project and people leadership experience is essential.
- Ability to challenge constructively – e.g. coaching a stakeholder or manager when they’re off-track, holding leaders accountable, managing upwards.
- Strong influence and presence – you must be able to disagree without being disagreeable.
- Highly autonomous – this is a “figure it out, own it” role.
