Hospice West Auckland supports patients, their whānau and carers, healthcare professionals and community providers with specialist palliative health and social support services.
Our dedicated, experienced team of health and social care professionals offer practical, physical, emotional and spiritual support to patients and whānau, wherever they call home.
There are times however, when 24 hour care is needed. As an extension to our Korowai Care service, Hospice West Auckland is establishing a 24/7 ‘home from home’ service called He Whare Korowai. This will enable short-term 24 hour care for patients in their own West Auckland community, based at Hospice House.
We are inviting registered nurses, with an interest in developing skills in palliative care, to be part of this exciting new initiative which will extend and enhance our current services and provide greater support and choice for patients and their whānau.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the Role:
You will be part of a team of registered nurses and healthcare assistants working onsite at Hospice House to care for patients and their whānau.
- We have several permanent positions ranging between 24 – 40 hours per week and you will be part of a 24-hour roster, including weekends.
- You will provide intensive hands on 1:1 care – both respite care and complex symptom management.
- You will be closely supported by specialist clinicians and the wider interdisciplinary team to guide your development in the specialty of palliative care.
- You will have the opportunity to work with the diverse people of our community, enabling you to build relationships and to contribute compassionately to their wellbeing, Pokohiwi Ki Te Pokohiwi (shoulder to shoulder).
- The estimated start date for this position is mid-October 2025.
Ōu pūkenga | Skills and Experience Required:
- At least 2 years previous experience as a New Zealand registered nurse in a related setting (hospice, hospital, oncology, general practice, residential care).
- A current NZ annual practicing certificate.
- Availability to work across a 24/7 roster including weekends. The availability to work additional shifts if required, would be an advantage.
- A full clean NZ driver’s licence and the right to work permanently in New Zealand
- An interest in adult palliative care and ongoing professional development in this field.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills, problem solving and the ability to work unsupervised.
- A confident user of technology – Microsoft Applications and Zoom technology would be an advantage.
- The maturity to handle challenging situations with common sense and compassion.
