Mō te tūranga | About the role
Are you passionate about making a tangible difference in the way Aotearoa manages and protects its land? Join DOC and play a key role in shaping national outcomes through statutory land management.
As National Statutory Land Management (SLM) Advisor, you'll lead and influence the design and delivery of DOC's SLM framework, ensuring that land-related decisions and actions are consistent, effective, and aligned with strategic priorities. You'll work at the heart of system improvement, mapping and refining processes, supporting the delivery of key outcomes, and taking on a mentoring role.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing high-level advice and support to ensure a consistent national approach to statutory land management processes
- Supporting the prioritisation and allocation of SLM work across the country
- Contributing to policy development, including Treaty settlement processes
- Coaching and mentoring junior team members to build national capability
- Monitoring the performance and outcomes of SLM systems to drive continuous improvement
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
We're looking for someone with deep expertise and the ability to influence, connect and deliver at a national scale.
You will bring:
- Strong knowledge of land-related legislation (Cadastral Survey Act, Land Transfer Act, Public Works Act) and DOC's internal statutory land management frameworks
- Experience in the wider natural resource policy environment, including Treaty settlements
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant field or equivalent significant experience in statutory land management
- Excellent relationship-building skills and a collaborative approach to working across teams and government agencies
- Strong process improvement and analytical skills with a clear and concise communication style
- A current full NZ drivers licence and willingness to travel if required

The Land Regulatory Delivery Team sits within the Treaty Negotiations and Land Directorate and is one area responsible for managing and overseeing the stewardship of DOC's Crown land asset. Working with others, we ensure land use and regulatory compliance under several pieces of core legislation that DOC is responsible for.

The salary range for this position is $92,450.00 - $116,985.00 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
