Hui E! is a national peak body supporting the tangata whenua, voluntary and community sector with information and opportunities to connect and grow. They convene, connect, and champion the collective voice of communities, hapū and iwi to advocate for transformational systems change and a flourishing, community-powered Aotearoa.
Hui E! create spaces and opportunities to generate thought leadership, connected social infrastructure and strategic collaborative research and advocacy. They are not a kaupapa Māori organisation, but are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi being foundational and visible in all of their mahi. The appointment of a Tangata Whenua co-leader is an important next step. This is an establishment role, with scope to help shape the future for Hui E!
Te āhua o Te Tūranga - The nature of the position
As Kaiwhakahaere Matua you will work in partnership with the Te Tiriti co-leader to provide strategic leadership and steer the direction of the organisation. This includes organisational leadership and building and nurturing relationships across multiple stakeholders; and amplifying the voices Māori organisations, hapū and iwi within the sector.
You will bring your strong leadership experience, knowledge of community, demonstrated expertise and experience in Te Ao Māori, and track record in working collaboratively to create change. In return you will be supported by an agile and innovative organisation, committed to supporting your wellbeing.
As Kaiwhakahaere Matua Tangata Whenua, you will:
- Provide shared strategic leadership, ensuring a Te Ao Māori lens is woven through all aspects of their work.
- Grow and nurture strong relationships with hapū, iwi, Māori organisations and networks.
- Co-design a Te Tiriti-based strategic plan and lead initiatives that advance equitable outcomes for Māori.
- Work alongside the co-leader to operationalise Tiriti-based ways of working with the team and Board.
- Advocate for Māori-led solutions within the wider community sector.
Ko tāu nā i tēnei tūranga - What you’ll bring to the role:
- Deep understanding and lived experience of Te Ao Māori, mātauranga, and te reo me ōna tikanga.
- Strong networks across hapū, iwi and Māori organisations.
- A track record in strategic leadership within the community sector (5+ years).
- Commitment to and experience with co-leadership, collaboration, and collective decision-making.
- Confidence navigating both kaupapa Māori and mainstream environments.
- Curiosity, openness and a willingness to work in complex, evolving spaces.
