Te Whānau Tupu Ngātahi o Aotearoa - Playcentre Aotearoa is a well known and loved Early Childhood organisation with over 70 years of supporting parents to take the lead in their children’s learning through play. Playcentre operates over 400 Playcentres throughout the country.
We’re looking for a kaiwhakaihuwaka Māori - a champion for te ao Māori, to provide advice to enact the strategic plan and support Playcentre with incorporating and embedding Te Ao Māori into our service. This role is based at the Upper North Island regional office in Henderson with the option to work from home. This is a part-time role, currently set at 20 hours per week, with some flexibility. This position will begin as soon as possible and the start date is negotiable.
The right person will:
- Demonstrate an understanding of Te Ao Māori (mātauranga Māori, tikanga Māori and te reo Māori), all levels of fluency and whakapapa will be considered.
- Recognise and understand the provisions of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Duties include, but not limited to:
- Collaboratively supporting and guiding staff and whānau to develop Playcentre’s cultural capability
- Supporting Rōpū Māori to function effectively
- Contributing to the development of a Te Ao Māori delivery model
- Identifying key local and Te Ao Māori relationships and building reciprocal relationships and partnerships and supporting kaimahi and whānau to build and sustain those connections.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Prior experience in a similar position
- Comfortable in a leadership role and displays tika, pono, māramatanga, aroha, manaaki
- ECE or Playcentre experience or knowledge is useful
- Excellent relationship management skills
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Organised - excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Flexibility to travel and work remotely on a weekly/fortnightly basis.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and growth
