We have 2 exciting fixed-term opportunities for practising lawyers or legally qualified professionals working in the Public Service ideally in Family Law or the wider justice setting.

Te Kura Kaiwhakawā (Te Kura) is the education and development arm of Aotearoa New Zealand's judiciary, delivering professional development to judicial officers at all stages of their careers. In this role, working as part of a team, you will collaborate with Judges to facilitate professional development programmes ensuring they meet learning objectives.

About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi

We are looking for 2 Senior Advisors, one ideally to focus on the Family Court for 12 months and the other on te reo Māori, Tikanga and Te Ao Māori until the end of February 2026. Utilising your highly developed oral and written communication skills, you will work with a range of professionals including high level legal professionals and academics to deliver judicial programmes. Critical to these roles is your ability to build rapport, collaborate using a high-level of EQ learning and navigation to deliver successful programme outcomes.

What you will bring | Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu

  • At least 3-5 years post-qualification experience preferably from private practice or within a legal or policy setting within the public sector.
  • Ideally, you will have knowledge and understanding of the New Zealand justice system and/or machinery of Government
  • Strong organisational skills coupled with excellent project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in legal learning and development/adult education is an advantage.

Te Kura offers a small friendly team environment with flexible working and additional benefits. They are also open to secondments/part-time job sharing from other departments. Some travel through the year is required to attend judicial learning programmes.
