Salary: $ 96,307 to $ 113,303 + superannuation

The roles | Te tūnga
As a Senior Design Analyst, you'll be responsible for researching, designing, and implementing a range of innovative statistical, data and analytical solutions to support and inform all stages of the data and statistics lifecycle across Stats NZ. The roles provide support in the form of expert guidance and advice to a wide range of teams and individuals across Stats NZ and the wider data ecosystem. In addition, the senior roles within each design area will have a key role in supporting, mentoring, and enabling other analysts within the team with their work and with their ongoing development.
We are recruiting for one permanent Senior Design Analyst, in the Household Financial Statistics Unit. Stats NZ is also recruiting for similar roles in other Units, including fixed-term positions.
About the Household Financial Statistics Unit
The Household Financial Statistics Unit produces statistics about household income, expenditure, wealth, and poverty in Aotearoa New Zealand using a range of administrative and survey-based data sources. A key output for this team is high quality data and statistics about child poverty to meet the requirements of the Child Poverty Reduction Act 2018.
The Senior Design Analyst role would suit someone who can bring:
- Experience and interest in social and environment, population and housing, macroeconomic, or working with administrative data.
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant field (computer science, statistics, etc.) that has a significant data component or equivalent experience.
- Strong experience in technical leadership, e.g. in decision making, problem solving, or leading a technical project or piece of work.
- Curiosity, and passion for innovation and application of conceptual and creative thinking skills to trouble-shoot and to develop or improve statistical designs, systems and processes.
- Experience and strong capability performing data analysis using statistical applications (particularly R, but also others such as Python, SAS or equivalent).
- Great team-working skills, personal resilience and the confidence to create strong working relationships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills that can explain complex concepts in plain English.
- Demonstrated customer centricity.
- Leading and develop technical capability, coaching and supporting others.
- Experience with relevant quantitative and qualitative research on a range of diverse and complex research questions.
- Knowledge or commitment to developing understanding of Te Tiriti, Tikanga, Te Reo, Te Ao Māori
- Demonstrated advocacy for, or support of, diversity and inclusion.
