Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the Role
Hāpai Te Hauora is seeking a Kaupapa Māori Researcher to lead and support research initiatives that empower whānau, hapū, and iwi. This role focuses on Mātauranga Māori-driven research, ensuring that Māori perspectives shape public health strategies.
You will contribute to national health outcomes by implementing kaupapa Māori methodologies, supporting Māori data sovereignty, and translating research into impactful community action.
This is a fixed term full time opportunity for 2 years.
Ngā kawenga me ngā haepapa | Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to kaupapa Māori research projects that align with mātauranga Māori and Hāpai’s strategic vision.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate Māori research methodologies that support whānau ora and improve health equity.
- Disseminate research findings through hui, wānanga, conferences, and publications, both nationally and internationally.
- Foster relationships with key stakeholders to encourage community engagement and participation.
- Support the advancement of Hāpai’s Research and Evaluation Unit, contributing to a Māori Public Health Research agenda.
- Ensure research findings translate into actionable solutions that benefit Māori communities.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (PhD preferred).
- Strong proficiency in Te Reo Māori me ōna Tikanga and its application within research and organisational settings.
- Expertise in Kaupapa Māori research, with skills in Māori data sovereignty, qualitative research, co-design, and evaluation.
- Proven ability to lead research projects, manage multiple priorities, and work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with experience translating research into community impact.
- Strong relationship-building skills to engage with whānau, hapū, iwi, and key public health stakeholders.
