
Senior Data Analyst
Te Mātāwai
Purpose of the role
The role leads the design and development of data sourcing processes, procedures and systems, as well as acting as the expert and go to person in data analytics for Te Mātāwai. The role is expected to share research and evaluation data/ findings with the Board and Kāhui panels to support investment planning and language revitalisation.
Key Accountabilities
The following key accountabilities of this role will assist in delivering the Te Mātāwai vision.
Data Science and Data Management
Develop and maintain the data and information system for Te Mātāwai investments, and more generally Te Mātāwai business
Development of systematic data processes, including data pipelines, data collection, data analysis, data cleaning, and organising complex data systems
Monitor projects within research and extract and analyse the necessary data and information required to support provision of advice
Work with others to prepare reports and data visualisation for various stakeholders
Collate, analyse and report on research data to enable the identification of trends, key findings and potential opportunities.
Stakeholder Management and Engagement
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff and stakeholders.
Represent Te Mātāwai appropriately within the community and with other organisations.
Initiate, build, and maintain a range of strategic relationships and networks internally and externally to influence, persuade and enrich advice and research outcomes.
Supporting knowledge translation and dissemination, including assisting with preparing scientific outputs, presentations, seminars, website content, blogs, and media outputs.
Managing and administering research programmes and projects.
Providing support to Te Mātāwai research networks and collaborators.
Project Management
Independently manage complex projects from start to finish.
Able to proactively identify risks (such as slipping timeline, scope creep or budget issues) and manage them.
Ensures their work aligns to the strategic direction and the strategic documents of Te Mātāwai
Role models for more junior kaimahi, as well as mentors and provides direction to junior kaimahi
Research, Monitoring and Evaluation
Supports and contributes to research as well as monitoring and evaluation projects.
Prepare and present research, monitoring, and evaluative analysis.
Support Te Mātāwai staff, pae motuhake, kāhui and external contractors to prepare papers and reports and gather relevant data to meet monitoring and evaluation objectives.
Extract, prepare and disseminate data and findings to support Te Mātāwai communication/public relations strategy objectives.
Storytelling and influence
Shares insights and recommendations through powerful storytelling
Savvy with storytelling in te ao Māori contexts
Systematically and successfully adapts content and delivery to fit different audiences and contexts
Guide and coach more junior kaimahi on effective storytelling
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Be a passionate advocate for the revitalisation of the Māori language and actively engaged in Māori language activities;
Combination of formal education and work experience related to Māori data and research (preferably in Māori language contexts);
Proficiency in both Māori and English;
Experience in working with whānau, hapū, iwi, Māori organisations and communities;
Strong communications skills – able to strategies, plan and coordinate resources to meet agreed objectives, and measure and report progress against agreed outcomes;
Sound understanding of tikanga and Treaty of Waitangi principles.
Excellent organisational skills and an ability to meet deadlines;
Strong presentation, communications skills (written and oral) and relationship management skills;
The ability to cement or build relationships with researchers and/or research communities;
Enjoy working as a team member, at a high level, and working collectively to get results.
