Hōhepa is a disability support service in Hawke’s Bay for people with intellectual disabilities. These people are full of life, and you will be helping them to reach their potential! 

We operate a special school, residential homes, day activities, and a wide range of enterprises. As a special character organisation, based on Anthroposophical principles, our vision is He oranga tū, Hei oranga waiora (‘every life fully lived’).

Following the departure of one of our nurses we seek a skilled and committed person to provide Nursing care for our adults, based in at one of our sites in Napier. This is a part-time position working 30 hours per week, to be agreed with the successful candidate; you will work 5 days per week, predominantly Monday to Friday, however some flexibility is required to meet the needs of people we support.

The ideal candidate will be a Registered Nurse in New Zealand. You will have knowledge of how to engage and respond effectively to the individual needs of a range of diverse people.  Training in, or an awareness of, Anthroposophical nursing and Te Ao Māori is an advantage. Our nurse holds responsibility for our infection prevention and control activities, so knowledge and awareness around this is advantageous.

As a Nurse, you will:

  • Support people Hōhepa supports and their staff teams to assess, monitor and care for their wellbeing
  • Support the development of best practice Hōhepa standards, policies and procedures and Health & Disability Service Sector requirements.
  • Being the chair of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and supporting the alignment with Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Standards
  • Support the development of relevant policies
  • To provide effective and supportive advice, professional leadership and coaching to the staff working at Hōhepa

To be effective in the role you will:

  • Be able to display empathy and respect.
  • Have great communication skills, in person and in writing (including ability to keep accurate records and observations).
  • Be trustworthy with high ethical standards, able to respect confidentiality and privacy.
  • Have a mature attitude and good interpersonal skills; this includes being practical and ‘down to earth' about the nature of the role and being able to work with people who may have high support needs and behaviour which can be challenging.
  • Be drug free, and able to meet background check requirements (reference and police vetting report checks).
  • Have an understanding of, or willingness to learn about, Hōhepa’s special character based on anthroposophy (Rudolf Steiner).
