Experience Practice Lead (Wellington or Christchurch)
Meridian Energy
- Wellington Central, Wellington, New Zealand
- Full-time
Company Description
At Meridian, we’re on a mission to make energy cleaner and cheaper for Aotearoa New Zealand.
100% of the energy we generate comes from renewable sources - wind, water and sun - because we believe that’s the best way forward for our planet and our communities.
We serve over 380,000 customers and have big aspirations to deliver value to even more homes and businesses across Aotearoa through our two brands, Meridian and Powershop.
It’s a challenge we take seriously, which is why we’ve recently redesigned our Retail operating model, building a network of empowered teams equipped to understand customer needs and quickly turn ideas and concepts into products and experiences that customers love.
Mō te tūranga | What you’ll be doing
It’s an exciting time to join Meridian, as we drive a full evolution of our Retail business and look to step-change the way we deliver our two epic brands, Meridian and Powershop.
As Experience Practice Lead, you’ll champion and drive the delivery of exceptional customer experiences aligned to business objectives. You'll nurture and grow our Experience practice ensuring our understanding and capability develops across our entire retail business.
- Balancing human, technology and business. You'll play a key role in how we shape and deliver an experience vision across multiple brands and segments in tune with our emerging product and technology suite. You can think and ensure delivery within Value Streams across time horizons and customer segments to ensure we evolve at pace.
- Outcome over output. With a track record in driving commercial outcomes, you’ll embed a mature approach to the intersect of customer and business needs within the capabilities of technology. You’ll ensure we are continually learning and enhancing as we go as we strive for better.
- Lead the experience evolution and learning journey of the organisation. You'll support the delivery of a step change in the approach and execution of customer experiences through democratising a retail wide approach to the way you and the practice work. In doing so you’ll lead out a capability build within the craft as well as supporting the maturity and direction of travel as a full business
- Lead the Practice. You’ll develop and grow a diverse team of CX and UX leaders, creating a learning culture where we incrementally deliver cohesive experiences, relentless in our pursuit of solutions that are cleaner and cheaper for customer. Leading by example you’ve got a compass well and truly set on customer and know how to think and deliver results built off a deep appreciation for experience design
Ngā pukenga kei a koe mō tenei tūranga | What you’ll bring
- Demonstrated enterprise level leadership – experience managing a broad range of stakeholders to ensure we evolve the capability of not just an Experience craft but a wider retail business.
- Strong commercial acumen with a track record of delivering business and customer outcomes
- Proven experience in building, executing and evolving rapid, iterative design and development across multiple products, brands and categories.
- A team-player with strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to build high performing teams and wider organisational capabilities.
- Ability to work through the ambiguity of understanding customer behaviours and force trade-offs, shaping new experiences, and applying new technologies.
- An outward view that shows an understanding that it takes a village - this not only requires thought leadership internally but the leveraging of external partners and communities to support us on that growth curve.
He aha koe i hono mai ai ki a mātou? | Why join us?

We value and live by three ‘How to Be’s’: ‘be gutsy’, working together by ‘being in the waka’ and doing the right thing by ‘being a good human’. We work hard and value the importance of connection and fun, whether this be through daily quizzes, morning teas, birthday and cultural celebrations both in person and virtually!
