Te Kuratini Tuwhera (Open Polytechnic of New Zealand), New Zealand's largest dedicated provider of online and distance education, is redeveloping 14 business degree courses inclusive of Te Ao Māori perspectives within the context of pakihi (business) and we are looking for business experts with mātauranga Māori, Te Ao Māori and Te Reo expertise to assist and contribute towards the project development team in redeveloping these courses. 

This redevelopment is to update content to include the latest technical, sociological developments and cultural perspectives in their respective fields.

Te Kuratini Tuwhera (Open Polytechnic) is seeking expressions of interest from skilled and experienced people with mātauranga Māori, Te Ao Māori and Te Reo expertise in business for the Pūkenga Marau - Pakihi, Mātauranga Māori: Pakihi │ Contract role.

This role will provide mātauranga Māori, Te Ao Māori and Te Reo expertise for 14 business degree courses ranging from level 5 through to level 7 in the following overarching business subject areas:

  • Human resource management
  • Marketing
  • Leadership and management
  • Operations and quality management
  • Project management
  • Business ethics
  • Economics
  • Commercial law

  • Education professional with first-hand knowledge of the business subjects listed above, in the tertiary sector.
  • Experienced at teaching business courses to ākonga at diploma and degree level
  • Experienced at teaching or application of knowledge in pakihi (business) from a Māori perspective
  • Experienced at designing, developing and/or delivering business courses or pathways that interweaves and upholds the mana of mātauranga Māori and Te Ao Māori perspectives
  • Strong writing and analysis skills, and a strategic approach to planning and development.
  • Committed to achieving outcomes for ākonga and produces quality work within the agreed timeframes.

  • Proven experience and knowledge of business disciplines from a mātauranga Māori, Te Ao Māori perspective. 
  • Relevant and up-to-date academic knowledge of business disciplines in the tertiary sector. 
  • Experience teaching adult learners and the appropriateness of learning approaches for ākonga at levels five, six, and seven. 
  • Have a good understanding of the professional / industry requirements for graduates at levels six and seven.  
  • Be able to identify and advise on the curation of appropriate online course resources. 
  • Be able to engage with, brief and review the input from other subject matter experts and ensure that they deliver work appropriate for the courses in development. 
  • Be the conduit for information and feedback between other subject matter experts and the rest of the team.  
  • Be able to contribute to and support the creation of engaging, original, te reo Māori and English content, digital assets, activities, and assessments for a completely online environment.
  • Be willing to work on team-based projects to a deadline.
  • Be responsive and collaborative with the team, other subject matter experts and project leads.
  • Be able to resolve issues raised by the learning designer and to escalate those, as necessary.

Pūkenga Marau - Mātauranga Māori: Pakihi │Subject Matter Expert - Mātauranga Māori: Business

Ko tā te Pūkenga Matua, Pūkenga Marau he whāngai i te puna mātauranga e tuia ana ki tā rātou wāhanga marau me ō rātou pūkenga, wheakoranga anō hoki.

Ka noho tahi ki te Kaihoahoa Akoranga (Learning Designer) i roto i ngā mahi whakahoahoa, i ngā mahi whakawhanake i te hōtaka nei.

The Subject Matter Expert - Mātauranga Māori (SME-MM) will provide focused specialist information and advice on their assigned course and within their key area of expertise. Collaborating closely with the Learning Designer throughout the design and development of the course. Specifically, the SME-MM will:

  • Familiarise themselves with the entire course, to obtain the overall context of the course.
  • Provide subject matter related to those areas the project has identified as benefitting from mātauranga Māori expertise.
  • Provide their appraisal of further mātauranga Māori mahi that we should consider across the balance of the course.
  • Work collaboratively with the development team to produce high quality courseware for online, distance, flexible, learning.
  • Write initial drafts and conduct a final peer review of courseware prepared by Learning Designers.
  • Ensure cohesion of content provided across topics and courses. Create or highlight linkages between content / resources provided.

This is a contract role for fixed deliverables. The time commitment for this role is expected to be on average 10 to 20 hours per week however, hours will vary, depending on the project deliverables during any given stage for a period of around 3-4 months, with the hours sometimes being 'more or less' depending on the stage of development.
