Ko wai mātou

Ngā Puna Reo o Aotearoa Incorporated (NPRA) is a newly formed entity established to support Ngā Puna Reo o Aotearoa.

The purpose of Ngā Puna Reo o Aotearoa is to advance quality kaupapa Māori immersion early years education by ensuring that Ngā Puna Reo are appropriately recognised, supported and resourced as unique kaupapa Māori immersion early years education services.

1. He Puna Tangata

  • NPRA asserts that the development and implementation of political strategies and key actions that engage political parties and the new government is integral to gaining traction for this organisation.
  • NPRA requires greater visibility in the media and the education sector. Our voice needs to be heard.
  • NPRA calls for strong advocacy & systems change in order to be visible and affect change for Ngā Puna centres across the motu.

2. He Puna Whenua

  • NPRA seeks equitable financing, funding and resourcing
  • NPRA wishes to offer more incentives to support Nga Puna Reo current and potential staff

3. He Puna Wai

  • Strongly advocate for Puna Reo with a drive to focus on what is best for mokopuna māori
  • To increase Te Reo Māori to 100% in existing and future Puna Reo

TE TURANGA (The Position)

The Tumu Whakarae role has an overall responsibility for leading the growth and performance of Ngā Puna Reo o Aotearoa as set out in the strategic plan and agreed to by the trustees. Additionally, this role is responsible for meeting the challenges of continuous improvement and empowerment implicit in our purpose and to deliver the quality and breadth of opportunity that will benefit  mokopuna and staff within Ngā Puna Reo centres across Aotearoa.

NGĀ TINO HAEPAPATANGA (Responsibilities)

  • To provide organisational leadership
  • To lead the formal establishment of NPRA alongside the Chairman, and the premises
  • Lead the development of our policies and procedures, strategic and annual plans.
  • Be the organisational ‘kanohi kitea’ representative
  • To support NPRA to have a formal voice in Māori and other national education forums including government.

NGĀ PUKENGA MATUA (Key Skills)

Leadership: Provide visionary and transformational leadership to the organisation, ensuring NPRA strategic goals and objectives are pursued and achieved.

Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organisation, including planning for the next phase of growth for Ngā Puna Reo o Aotearoa and its relationship with MOE from 2023 and beyond.

Team Management: Known to lead and effectively manage the NPRA team of executives and staff, fostering a positive, productive and future focused organisational culture.

Integral is the driving force which is about better outcomes for Māori medium early learning and ultimately our mokopuna and whānau in Aotearoa.

Communication: Proven experience in effectively communicating the NAPRAs mission, goals, and achievements to internal and external stakeholders.

Ensure Puna Reo are represented at national and Government education hui and decision-making forums.

Advocacy: To advocate on a national and international level for the rights and aspirations of Puna Reo, kaiako, tamariki and whānau.

Ensuring Puna Reo has a voice, and is acknowledged and supported.

To ensure the unique status and role of Puna Reo in kaupapa Māori immersion early years education is appropriately acknowledged, advanced and resourced.

To ensure Puna Reo are recognised according to the principles of partnership, participation and protection under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders within NPRA and national Puna Reo.

Financial Management: Take responsibility for the financial health of the organisation, including budgeting, financial planning, and ensuring sustainable funding sources.

To ensure there is equitable funding of Puna Reo that accurately reflects the higher requirement of having registered teachers who are also fluent in te reo Māori to be able to teach in Māori medium settings.

Maintain open communication with the accountant regarding all financial matters.

Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks that could impact the organisation's success, reputation, or financial stability.

Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards applicable to the organization's operations.

Innovation and Adaptation: Foster a culture of innovation and adaptability to respond to changing external factors and emerging opportunities.
