Ngā Waihua o Paerangi Trust (formerly known as Ngāti Rangi Trust) is currently seeking applicants for the role of Pou Whirinaki - Pae Whakahaumaru / Manager - Pae Whakahaumaru

Pae Whakahaumaru is focused on sustainability and protection. Your role is to provide leadership in supporting work in open spaces, natural resources / environment areas and public conservation lands.

Pae Whakahaumaru is also about local jobs for local people and creating pathways into sustainable employment. The aspiration is to be New Zealand’s best track and trail asset managers and construction specialists. You will be protecting our natural and cultural resources, and safeguarding sites of significance, while nurturing relationships with key partners.

The role will focus on:

  • Be a leader, passionate about the environment or looking to grow your knowledge and experience in the outdoors and protecting native species.
  • Be prepared to lead and work in the elements – Ruapehu region can experience four seasons in one day!
  • Be ready to undertake lots of training and learning opportunities.
  • Work well as a team and individually.
  • Have a good level of physical fitness
  • Want to grow your skills in many areas, from conservation to recreational services.
  • Leading initiatives related to wellbeing; recognising the vital role that whenua plays in this;
  • Building relationships with stakeholders to enhance the aspirations of Ngāti Rangi

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Qualifications in management; community development; or environmental protection
  • Exceptional communication skills, ability to engage with people across all levels and to lead a team
  • Demonstrate ability to embrace change, think outside the box and work within current frameworks.
  • People and project management experience.
  • Ability to analyse and solve complex problems, form judgements, and provide advice and recommendations.
  • Ability to broker relationships with a range of stakeholders and come up with innovative ways to give effect to the aspirations of Ngāti Rangi.
  • Ability or developing competency in Te Reo Māori, tikanga, ability to work alongside and implement our Ngāti Rangi ways.

We will consider the right person who is a lateral thinker with a relevant qualification and experience in a related field looking to move into management.

This is a fixed term, full-time Monday to Friday 8.00am to 5.00pm (40 hours per week) however availability outside of these hours is required to fulfil the requirements of the position.

  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
  • A current, full NZ Driver’s Licence is a requirement of the position.
