The Wairarapa Moana Statutory Board (WMSB) is a governance body dedicated to safeguarding and enhancing the cultural, environmental, and economic well-being of Wairarapa Moana and the Ruamahanga River catchment.

Established under the Te Rohe o Rongokako Joint Redress Act 2022, the Board works collaboratively with iwi, hapū, and community groups to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for the region. WMSB is tasked with developing a visionary framework that reflects the aspirations of its people and guides the Moana's future stewardship.

Te āhua o Te Tūranga - The nature of the position

The Project Manager role offers an exciting opportunity to lead a multi-stage project to create a strategic vision for Wairarapa Moana. Reporting to the Project Manager Committee, you will drive the development of the overarching vision document, ensuring meaningful engagement with iwi and hapū stakeholders, as well as wider community involvement. This is a unique position that calls for a seasoned Project Manager with the cultural fluency and strategic foresight to facilitate a collaborative, inclusive approach.

Ngā tino Pūkenga/Wheako - Skills/experience required:

  • Project Planning and Management: Develop and implement a detailed, multi-phase project plan that includes document drafting, public notification, and final approval.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate an inclusive process with joint redress iwi, hapū, and other community partners, ensuring transparent and participatory project stages.
  • Governance and Reporting: Liaise with the Project Manager Committee and Statutory Board to align project outcomes with the vision and directives of WMSB.
  • Milestone and Quality Assurance: Ensure timely, high-quality deliverables that meet all performance and budgetary standards.

Ngā tino Pūkenga/Wheako

  • Proven experience in successful Project Management delivery of projects within required performance standards, delivering quality products on time and within budget.
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully with iwi and multi-agencies in developing approved and signed-off strategic visions or plans.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Project Management, Business, or a related field; PMP or PRINCE2 certification advantageous.
  • Required expertise and experience in leading iwi structures and systems to enter a contract with a Statutory Board.
  • A high level of cultural competence with a strong understanding of Te Ao Māori me ōna tikanga.
  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement, with a talent for managing diverse relationships and building consensus.
  • Strong organisational and strategic thinking abilities, with a solutions-focused approach.
