Are you a member of Pacific communities who wants to contribute to making Wellington a city where Pacific people thrive and contribute to Council's priorities?
The Pacific Advisory Group is a group of up to 17 members which meets regularly to advise Te Kaunihera o Pōneke | Wellington City Council and brings knowledge and extra insight into Council about how the different needs of Wellington's Pacific communities can be addressed. The group provides the Council with relevant information, advice, and feedback on specific Council projects and policy development.
The Pacific Advisory Group is made up of the composition below, to ensure representation of a range of Pacific communities, and we are recruiting for 7 new members in total:
- 3 members from Samoan communities (2 vacancies).
- 2 members from Cook Islands communities (1 vacancy).
- 2 members from Tongan communities (0 vacancy).
- 2 members from Fijian communities (2 vacancies).
- 2 members from Niuean communities (1 vacancy).
- 2 members from Tokelauan communities (1 vacancy).
- 2 members from Tuvaluan communities (1 vacancy).
- 1 member from a Melanesian community (0 vacancy).
- 1 member from a Micronesian community (0 vacancy).
We are seeking applicants for the above vacancies who live in Wellington City and have experience living or working in and/or contributing to at least one Pacific community.
We encourage all applicants to uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and contribute to achieving positive outcomes for Māori in our community.
The commitment
The role includes attending two-hour meetings on the second Wednesday of every month from 5.30 - 7.30pm at Council offices, 113 The Terrace, or online, via Teams. There are up to 12 meetings in a year, and members receive an allowance, currently $110, for attending each meeting. Please note you will need to be available to attend the induction evening on Tuesday 10 December.
