Mō te tīma | About our Team

This role sits within All of Government Services Delivery (AoGSD), part of the Digital Public Service Branch (DPS) who bring together the functions that deliver services to or for the public sector and is responsible for an All of Government Portfolio of digital products and ICT Services.  The role of the Digital Public Service branch is to work with and through agencies to drive and deliver a customer-centered digital government. 

We champion the use of Common Capabilities and centralized essential information products and services across agencies, as well as championing All of Government standards and guidelines. 

The Back Office Digital Transformation Service (BoDTS) is one of these centralized services and has been created to reduce the cost, risk, complexity and time taken to deliver back-office systems, through standardised, high quality, all-of-government processes, tools and systems. 

The Service provides agencies with a common set of standardised processes and will provide tools to support agencies as they modernise their back-office functions (e.g. HR, Finance, Procurement) making use of previously used collateral and design to streamline the process, to lower cost and risk, and to increase efficiency. 

He angitūtanga | About the Role

A senior role in the Saas/Master Back Office Library team this position plays a significant role in ensuring the delivery of innovative, efficient and fit for purpose Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) technical solutions for the BoDTS and the government agencies utilising the service.

As a technical expert you’ll provide analysis and in-depth knowledge of ERP solutions and NZ AOG Design SaaS solutions available via Suppliers in Marketplace, the repository of technology suppliers. Your technical consultancy and advice to the BoDTS and Government will support the identification and implementation of the best and most appropriate ERP solutions available.  As an excellent communicator you’ll confidently communicate and translate the benefits of these ERP solutions and SaaS products to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.  

Working closely with business analysts/process modelers you will accumulate in-depth knowledge of the BoDTS supported AoG Back-office Designed software solutions and working across the team provide trusted advice founded in your knowledge of both local and global ERP systems.

You will be responsible for;

  • Supporting the BoDTS with a clear understanding of an ERP environment and how an FMIS, HRIS or procurement solution supports an Agency’s ERP requirement
  • Provide technical leadership for the evaluation and integration of new technologies and systems in accordance with NZ AOG Back-office Design requirements 
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise to primary procurement activities of SaaS tool panels and implementation of partner panels 
  • Provide secondary procurement advice and guidance to agencies considering and/or undertaking SaaS tool procurements 
  • Provide project implementation advice and guidance to agencies planning SaaS tool implementations (note: the role will not directly be involved with agency implementation projects)
  • Provide Technology Governance oversight and mentoring to ensure ERP solutions meet compliance requirements
  • Research technologies that have the potential to further enable business efficiency and effectiveness 
  • Monitor international standards and global trends to identify standards and technologies that may deliver technology-enabled ERP innovation 
  • Keeping abreast of the latest ERP upgrades and offerings 
  • Be accountable for and take part in working across the BoDTS, the Branch and other Government organisations to create and deliver meaningful specific advice and guidance around AoG Back Office Design ERP solutions 
  • Establish and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with internal and external technical experts 
  • Facilitate and lead problem solving sessions with a variety of stakeholders when required
  • Establishing and maintaining strong collaborative working relationship across the BoDT Service teams and promoting the benefits to suppliers with the Back-office Design validation opportunities.

As a subject matter expert, you’ll provide information and guidance on ERP solutions to benefit back-office modernisation projects. Reviewing and ensuring all potential technology solutions, systems and products meet government requirements and expectations is a critical part of your success in this newly formed team.

To deliver and add value in this role you will have;

  • Extensive experience as a system integration partner or ERP specialist, leading a large ERP implementation or segments of the implementation in either Oracle, SAP or similar 
  • Ideally ERP experience in at least one back office function  (HR, Finance, Procurement)
  • Experience in the delivery of technology solutions in large and complex environments
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and engagement skills 
  • The ability to easily translate technical terms to a non-technical audience
  • Excellent relationship building skills and will ensure collaborative and inclusive relationships are built and managed across internal and external teams
  • An ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of an organisation
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Exceptional problem solving and conceptual thinking skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • An awareness of global technologies and access to information on emerging technologies
  • An understanding of government practices and processes relevant to the role
  • In depth understanding of SDLC and project management principles
