He angitūtanga | About the role

Are you an experienced brand and marketing leader, inspired by the kaupapa vision of Te Oranga o te Ao Tūroa - Nature is Thriving, with one of Aotearoa's most well-known brands?

As Team Lead Brand and Marketing, we're looking for a brand and marketing expert motivated by the opportunity to lead a talented team and diverse portfolio of work. You will play a key leadership role within the Digital, Brand and Marketing team as well as the wider Strategic Communications and Engagement Directorate. You will be responsible for leading the Brand and Marketing Team which involves managing a team of five and their workflow across the brand, campaigns, product marketing, and national partner marketing workstreams. You will ensure your team's programme of work aligns with wider strategic objectives and that the team understand the role their work plays in this.

The position will be focussed on:

  • Providing high level strategic brand and marketing advice and insights
  • Modelling trusted and respected leadership behaviour within the directorate
  • Lead a team across four fascinating and complex workstreams, ensuring that the team is well supported and set up to succeed in the delivery of marketing activities and maintaining the integrity of the DOC brand
  • Project management and delegation
  • Establishing and fostering trusted relationships with your team, the wider team and unit, and both internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

You will need to be able to juggle people and workflow management, relationship management, and general leadership, as well as providing strategic advice to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. A collaborative, personable, and empathetic approach will enable you to be successful in this role.

If you have some of the below, we would love to hear from you:

  • Extensive experience developing and delivering brand and marketing strategies and multi-channel campaigns
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or developing people
  • Experience managing people, teams, or projects
  • Experience with sponsor or partner marketing
  • Experience with engagement, product, and behaviour change marketing
  • Highly collaborative and consultative - with successful experience working with and influencing stakeholders at different levels and in dynamic environments
  • Strong critical thinking and risk radar - to analyse complex information from a variety of sources, identify opportunities and risks, and provide impactful solutions
  • Strong organisation and delegation skills with proven ability to work at pace and manage several priorities simultaneously, as well as a willingness to flex and adapt as priorities change
  • A natural team-player with the ability to work as part of a leadership team as well as model and foster a thriving environment for a team
  • Experience working in distributed team, fostering inclusive team culture

As a Treaty partner, an understanding of mātauranga Māori and te ao Māori is important in this mahi. At DOC we seek to bring te ao Māori into all our work and ensure iwi, hapū, and whānau are enabled and supported to share their stories and ultimately increase the impact of our storytelling.

The Brand & Marketing Team sit within Digital, Brand and Marketing. Our purpose is to build trust and confidence in DOC and engage New Zealanders in nature through our brand, campaigns, content, channels, and partners. We are part of the Strategic Communications and Engagement Directorate. We're responsible for leading DOC's strategic communications and engagement, internally and externally, through providing strategic and tactical media, communications support, and services across DOC – working closely with Minister's office.

We're a group of storytellers, content creators, researchers, writers, message managers, editors, designers, brand guardians, producers, marketers and promoters who want to inspire our people and New Zealanders to connect with and care for Aotearoa New Zealand's natural environment.

The salary range for this position is $108,617 – $137,645 pro-rata with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.

You must seek the support of your line manager (minimum Tier 4) in writing before applying for a secondment opportunity and attach it to your application.
