Job Number: 8857

A new ELT role driving the strategic approach to People & Capability, developing systems, and a professional tikanga approach to human resources.

  • Lead the development of our workforce in a tikanga Māori approach
  • Be at the Executive table leading the organisation’s ‘people capability’ strategy
  • Showcase best practice in a Ngāti Hine and te ao Māori framework

About the Organisation -  Ko wai mātou?

The Ngāti Hine Health Trust celebrated its 30th anniversary in April 2022. The Trust has some 360 employees and $43M turnover. The Trust is a true oranga provider delivering services across multiple sectors (health & disability, housing, social services, justice, corrections, MSD, ECE and is the whanau ora lead provider for Te Tai Tokerau). It has deliberately positioned itself over the past few years to partner with the Crown in the transformation agenda that is for Māori, by Māori. Whilst the Trust is committed to its own plan, it also carries a wider leadership role across the Te Tai Tokerau Māori Health and Social Services provider network and is working collaboratively for the benefit of the entire region.

The Trust’s strategic plan sets out a clear blueprint for the direction ahead and seeks to reconfigure service design and delivery to align with thinking and practice that places whānau at the centre of everything they do, that encourages whānau leadership in a systemic context and in the long-term is driving to ‘One Whānau, One Plan, One Place’. This is an exciting phase for the Trust, and we have worked hard developing a new strategic direction which includes a new vision and mission, underpinned by the organisational values from Te Tū o Ngāti Hine.

About the Role

This is a new Executive Leadership Team role and reflects the more strategic future of Ngāti Hine as committed to the development of its workforce in a Ngāti Hine and te ao Māori context.

It is ambitious, however as we expand and grow we have huge resourcing needs and are hungry to do this with the right tikanga for us.  It is strategic and a full part of the ELT. The organisation does not see the role as a ‘support’ role but as an integrated strategic enabler of both its future people and organisational outcomes.

A key priority for the position is to benchmark existing practices against best practice workforce strategy, bringing innovative recommendations, with the proven ability to effectively imbed those.

This role is critical to developing and growing the Trust and its services, and will have up to five staff.

About you

You will be a person who leads in the values of Ngāti Hine and an exceptional strategic thinker. You will be a source of foresight on the way in the development of Māori workforce and its needs in a service context.  Your strategic capability and future thinking will see you contributing on the ELT  with a  whole of business lens. However, you will also be operational and able to lead the people team, who also service Ngāti Hine FM.

You can tell by this description that we are looking for an exceptional person and your track-record across Human Resources, capability development and culture, will be very important to the application, as well as your fit with us.
