We are looking for a talented senior communications practitioner to join our fast-paced team, and help us connect, collaborate and communicate with New Zealanders. This is a permanent role.

The Ministry is working across land management, freshwater, oceans, climate change, waste and biodiversity deploying a range of tools for change including regulation, education, market instruments and funding partnerships. This role would provide support across the Ministry's work programmes.

At the heart of this kaupapa is a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the ability to create content that reflects Te Ao Māori and tikanga practices in the way we care for, use and repair our whenua, awa and natural resources.

We need you to bring your amazing communication and engagement skills to help drive a compelling narrative, to help connect people and support this important mahi.

We're looking for a creative all-rounder with a passion to help New Zealand's environment flourish now and into the future. We want you to come equipped with a formidable communications tool-kit including strategy development, delivery-focussed implementation, and media.

We want to hear from you if you:

  • have proven experience operating as a senior communications specialist
  • are a natural story-teller who can share perspectives across our communications and stakeholder channels
  • have strong political acumen and a nose for risk and opportunity
  • get what the media needs and how to pitch a great story
  • understand stakeholder engagement, collaboration and partnership
  • can build trusted relationships at all levels of an organisation and externally
  • are happy rolling your sleeves up and getting involved where you are needed
  • are a multi-tasker who thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • experience with iwi and Pasifika communications and content is a plus.

Salary Range

Salary range for this role is $101,802 to $124,424 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
