Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

For this varied role, we are looking for a talented Technical Officer or Advanced Technical Officer to be part of our Field Based Science, School of Science team. A number of papers taught in Science have a field-based component along with most of the research carried out, as we have a commitment to hands on practical education. The position will mainly provide technical support for field instrumentation with the expectation that you would also work across a range of other science teaching and research areas as required.

You will be self-motivated, with a demonstrated capacity to work effectively as a team member and to relate effectively and sensitively to students and staff from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. You have vision to develop and improve processes and an ability to learn quickly on the job.

For a detailed description of the key tasks and responsibilities, please see the attached position descriptions, however these are some of the essential experience and knowledge requirements we are seeking:

  • Relevant tertiary qualilfication
  • Planning and logistics for teaching and research fieldwork excursions
  • Use of specialised environmental monitoring instruments and equipment
  • Calibrating and testing environmental sensors
  • Sample collection and data analysis
  • Willingness to travel and be involved in fieldwork
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements and hazardous substances
  • A current NZ full driver’s licence

The salary will be commensurate with the level of appointment. The Salary range for Technical Officers is $63,198 to $75,756, per year and for Advanced Technical Officers is $76,302 to $87,768, per year depending on qualifications, skills and experience.
