At the Department of Internal Affairs, the work we do makes it possible for community groups and charities to not only access funding, but also to learn the best way to manage themselves to be as effective as possible. Service Delivery and Operations Branch, Hāpai Hapori – Community Operations is the face of DIA.  This is a great opportunity for a self-motivated Kaitohutohu Hapori – Community Advisor to join our high performing Dunedin/Otepoti team. This is a role designed to engage with Hapū, Iwi and Pacific peoples to provide information, advice and connect them with the resources they need to thrive. Some travel is involved, and a driver's licence is essential.

Key to your success will be a proven ability to work alongside these communities to enable them to achieve their own aspirations. You will also have strong analysis capability and your customer service ethic will underpin all that you do. You will have a professional attitude and be able to evidence:   

  •  Strong communication skills - written and oral. 
  • Proven skills, knowledge and experience in providing advice that builds and empowers the communities of Marae, Hapū, Iwi and Pacific peoples. 
  • Excellent relationship management and collaboration skills. Data analysis and analytical skills including the ability to interpret financial information. 
  • An understanding of grant management.  
  • Experience in assessing organisation performance and providing advice to community and voluntary organisations.
  • The ability to plan, organise and manage work effectively to meet multiple deadlines. 
  • Being flexible and adaptive in a dynamic and changing community development environment.

Your background might include a combination of: 

  • Community-led development/Community Advisory/Community  Practitioner experience  
  • Funding administration experience in the Private or Public Sectors  
  • Marae, Hapū or Pacific peoples development experience 
  • Other relevant experience
