Te whāinga roa | The opportunity
Our aspiration is to establish Te Ao Māori as a foundation to our organisational culture and intelligence. As our Pou Whakatupu Ahurea Māori, you will work alongside EY and EY Tahi leadership to help develop Māori cultural competency and capability across EY Partners and staff.
Our vision for this role is to empower all EY people with cultural intelligence through the development and implementation of a programme of learning. Within EY’s structure, you will be part of a wider, collaborative Talent team and be able to leverage several functional areas and resources to support the development and goals of the programme.
In a practical sense, you will:
- assess the Māori cultural capabilities and needs of the firm
- understand the business context in which we operate; and
- develop a ‘year one’ programme of learning for all EY Partners and staff.
Beyond programme development, you will start implementation of the programme across the firm, beginning with EY New Zealand leadership and teams working with and for Māori and the Crown.
This exciting opportunity is offered on an initial 12 month fixed-term contract. At the end of the 12-month period we’ll undertake an assessment to determine the needs of the programme and this role for the future.

Te pae tata | To be achieved in 12 months
- Assess learning needs, and design ‘year one’ of a Māori Cultural Capability learning programme, appropriate for EY people at all levels of maturity and knowledge of Te Ao Māori including Te Reo, Tikanga and Matāuranga Māori
- Lead and facilitate the implementation of the ‘year one’ learning programme across the firm as relevant parts are developed - which will include an introduction to Māori language, Māori culture and protocols, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and working with Māori people and organisations
- Working with relevant EY leadership, teams, and individuals, to provide insight and culturally appropriate guidance on understanding and applying Te reo Māori, Tikanga Māori and Matāuranga Māori in an EY context
- Provide recommendations for future action at the end of the 12-month period.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills, knowledge and experiences required
- 5+ years of experience in a similar position
- Expertise in Te Ao Māori, Te Reo Māori, Tikanga Māori and Matāuranga Māori through either lived experience or equivalent demonstratable experience
- Demonstrated ability to partner with internal and external stakeholders and bring them together to achieve programme milestones
- Demonstrated ability in delivering strategic programmes of work
