Chief Operating Officer

Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services Ltd (“NISS”) is the standard-bearer for Ngāpuhi in the social services sector. The company is staffed by a dedicated and hard-working group of managers and employees who are deeply committed to the company’s purpose of enabling Ngāpuhi whānau to be the best they can be. Operating from its base in Kaikohe, the company delivers services in areas such as youth justice, whanau ora, truancy, youth development and family violence to whānau and communities from Whangārei to Te Rerenga Wairua.

The social services sector is on the cusp of major change, and NISS is positioning itself to capitalise on this change. The company anticipates experiencing significant growth in the medium term. To this end, the company has just completed an organisation-wide review of every aspect of its operations and performance. Amongst other things, the review points to the need for a new position, Chief Operating Officer, to be responsible to the CEO for all of the company’s service delivery activities, business support services and professional practices.

Accordingly, we would love to hear from seasoned senior executives with a successful track record in managing complex, non-commercial operations.

We’re especially interested in candidates who—

  • are accustomed to leading staff in fast-moving and dynamic settings;
  • have a bias towards human resource development – who know how to grow people and teams; and
  • are comfortable navigating a range of contractual, legal and regulatory requirements.

A background in social services is highly desirable, but it’s not a knock-out factor. Much more important is a deep knowledge of Ngāpuhitanga and the ability to bring that knowledge to bear in a position like this.

It’s likely that the incumbent CEO will be retiring within the next year or two, so we see this as a great opportunity to bring her probable successor into the organisation.

If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you. If you’ve been looking for the right position to attract you home, this could be it. On the other hand, if the position isn’t for you, but you know of someone whom you think would be great in the role, please pass this advertisement to them and encourage them to apply.
