About the role

This is an important, high-profile position leading a powerful union that leverages its professional and industrial capacity to lead, and advocate for quality public education in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The National Secretary | Korimako Tangiata provides strategic leadership and manages the activities, operations and resources of NZEI Te Riu Roa under the direction of the National Executive and Te Reo Areare.

About you

You’re a proven leader who inspires and motivates the people you work with. You’re experienced at providing strategic advice and leadership and have outstanding relationship management skills. You can build partnerships and collaborations that support NZEI Te Riu Roa to achieve its aims.

You are a highly skilled communicator, able to advocate, inform and influence a range of people in the representation of NZEI Te Riu Roa’s members. You’re open to trying new things (and failing), shifting culture, and recognising that unions need to make changes to remain relevant and effective in society. 

You appreciate that unionism in Aotearoa has both the obligation and opportunity to reflect Te Tiriti o Waitangi and see this approach as a strength in our endeavours to advocate for our members.
