Tihei Mauri Ora

Two of New Zealand’s largest institutes of technology are seeking a skilled and dedicated Pou Hautu (Māori co-leader) to champion the value of Te Tiriti based partnership in tertiary education.

Unitec and MIT are committed to the success of our students, our staff and our communities and we recognise upholding our responsibility to Te Tiriti o Waitangi is integral to truly enhancing outcomes for Māori.

The Pou Hautu will provide dedicated attention to driving equitable outcomes for tauira, supporting and strengthening relationships with mana whenua and ensuring a healthy and safe environment for tauira and kaimahi Māori.

Reporting to the Chairman of the MIT and Unitec Boards, this role will work collaboratively with the Board, Chief Executive and Executive Leadership Team across both organisations.

The Chief Executive will retain ultimate accountability but substantive authority will be shared with the Pou Hautu.

The Unitec/MIT Pou Hautu will maintain and uphold the values of our institutes in embedding Te Tiriti partnership.

The ideal candidate will have Te Reo Māori me ōna Tikanga.  Understanding the needs of Māori learners and leading a transformative Te Tiriti based approach to providing the support they are entitled to and deserve is essential.

The Pou Hautu will also play an integral role along with the CE and Executive Leadership Team in supporting MIT and Unitec as the institutes prepare to transition into Te Pūkenga over the next 12 months.

This is a fixed term role until 31 December 2022.
