This role provides expert level technical assistance and advice in the development and deployment of AoG ICT Capabilities. You will provision effective technical consultancy and product advice for both BAU support and project/change work covering ICT Common Capabilities and services. This includes, technical planning, advice on technical aspects of system development and integration to ensure that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices are applied.

The role will include engagement with internal stakeholders, external agencies, and suppliers to support and facilitate effective delivery of business outcomes. There will be a particular focus on positioning the ICT Capability and Change Team’s technical capability at the forefront of emerging technologies for applicable products and services offered by the Digital Public Service Branch.

The Technical Specialist – ICT Common Capabilities will provide advanced subject matter expertise, thought leadership and guidance on a range of existing and innovative products and services. In collaboration with the AoG Services Delivery Portfolio team, this will ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to development, change and delivery, enabling a complete digital and commercial products and portfolio ecosystem view.

What you will do to contribute

  • Technical Support
    • Actively contribute advanced technical expertise to developing, implementing innovative information technology solutions to achieve the outcomes of the AOG Services Delivery Team
    • Support the Manager Capability and Change, to maintain the reputation of the AOG SD as a leading-edge developer, contributor and executor of information technology of ICT Common Capabilities consumed by Agencies throughout the system
  • Operational Support
    • Assist in resolution and organisation support for Agencies consuming the ICT Common Capabilities
    • Provide evidence on key analytical findings
    • Provide thought leadership and advice to remediate incidents and refine solutions
  • Stakeholder and Relationship Management
    • Work with the Manager ICT Capabilities and Change, and Manager Portfolio to translate research into and plan the pipeline of product development/change for the portfolio
    • Work with senior stakeholders to understand their businesses and to influence the development of solutions that fit their needs and are within strategic priorities
    • Develop and maintain productive and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders

What you will bring specifically

  • Extensive, expert level proven experience in system and network design and development 
  • Expert level experience and technical expertise in developing, implementing innovative information technology solutions, preferably with a system or all-of-government focus
  • Proven, demonstrable experience in developing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders
  • Demonstrable and extensive experience in solution architecture and integration solution design
  • Experience reviewing designs as part of a project or architecture team is desired.
  • Good knowledge of risk management principles, frameworks and processes. 
  • High level of knowledge in infrastructure solutions and software applications.
  • Excellent expert analytical skills – able to break down complex issues into understandable pieces, able to see hidden issues, probes all possible solutions, connects smaller issues together to see/understand the big picture.
  • Superior problem-solving skills at a level to work through issues of considerable complexity, using high level conceptual thinking skills, in depth analysis in the context of the overall business issues for Govt as a whole, and the judgement to select and apply/recommend appropriate decisions. 
  • Proven ability to develop technical systems and solutions.
