In Nelson Tasman, Adult Community Mental Health and Addiction Services are delivered by an established multi-disciplinary team based at Nelson Hospital. This team delivers a comprehensive clinical resource to adults affected by acute or enduring severe mental illness.

Ngā mōhiohio e pā ana ki tēnei mahi (About this position)

This is an exciting role that will facilitate access to services for adults in the community who have offended, and are affected by mental health or addiction issues. It will sit with the Nelson Addiction Service, while providing triaging, assessments and liaison within the justice system. The role will provide networking and facilitate engagement with the justice and mental health and addiction services, while holding a case load with the Nelson Addiction Service.

This is a permanent, full-time position working 80 hours a fortnight. Our usual hours of work are between 8AM and 5PM, Monday to Friday. Duly Authorised Officer experience would be an advantage; however, training will be provided.

Ko wai he kaitono tōtika? (Who is an appropriate applicant?)

The successful candidate will be culturally competent, have great interpersonal skills and be able to provide assessments and referrals to services. They will ensure the mental health needs of people involved in the criminal justice system are attended to. They will be a NZ registered health professional (occupational therapist, registered nurse, social worker, or registered DAPAANZ), with experience working with adults, and they will be conversant with current research relating to mental health, addiction and offending.

Whilst we are looking for experienced practitioners, we recruit primarily for attitude. You will need to fit into a cohesive team culture of collaborative practice, openness, humour, and respect across disciplines and will engender confidence, trust and rapport with clients, their support networks and other agencies and service providers.

You will have a passion for working with people in the justice system, liaising with Court staff and the Mental Health and Addiction Services. You will be providing information and networking across the different services, allowing for robust treatment and support.
