Te Kotahi Research Institute (TKRI) engages in research that contributes to enhancing the well-being of Iwi, Māori, and Indigenous communities. The Institute further supports the work of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Māori to sustain relationships and develop research capacity among staff and students. Te Kotahi promotes and encourages research with scholars across disciplines while realising the research needs and aspirations of iwi.

Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

While we have one position available, suiting either a postdoctoral fellow or a research officer. The successful candidate will conduct high quality research on the MBIE funded Moana Project resourced by the He Papa Moana workstream which explores traditional waka voyaging and matāuranga relating to changes in ocean temperatures and marine heart waves. In addition, you will develop research proposals and collaborate with iwi partners Whakatōhea and other academics.

Ko wai koe? - Who are you?

You will have a PhD (as a Postdoctoral Fellow) or Masters (as a Research Officer) in marine science, marine aquaculture or environmental science along with a record of research and publishing. You should also have research skills and in-depth knowledge in domains that can be applied to one of the focus areas.

You will have good knowledge of te reo, tikanga and matāuranga Māori. You will be driven, self-motivated and proactive, with a proven ability to communicate and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders and work under pressure and embrace diversity. You will need to travel for consultation with iwi, so a full NZ driver’s licence is essential.

This a fixed term position until 30 September 2023 and offers a salary range of $79,337 to $95,551 per year for Postdoctoral Fellow and $69,124 to $84,062 per year for Research Officer to reflect qualifications, skills and experience.
