Ko wai mātou? - Who are we?

Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato - The University of Waikato is located within park-like grounds steeped in history and culture, in a city big enough to be exciting, and small enough to know who your neighbours are. This is where tradition meets innovation, and we look at the past to help steer the future.

The Department of Design offers a compelling programme, attracting students from near and far. There are four available majors: Communication Design, Interface Design, Media Design and Industrial Design.

Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

The Bachelor of Design (BDes) Industrial Design major is the latest academic development in design offering at the University of Waikato. In this role, you will contribute to teaching the core practice-based studio courses of the Industrial Design major.

The Industrial Design major was launched in 2020. Therefore, as a dedicated and motivated academic, you will have the opportunity to strengthen a young programme that will graduate the first cohort of students in 2022.

You will also contribute to postgraduate supervision and administration requirements, maintain and develop original scholarship and research, and undertake professional/community/iwi service activities relevant to the profession or discipline.

Ko wai koe? - Who are you?

You will genuinely care about your students and colleagues, as you will work in an environment which embraces diversity and challenges the status quo. You are committed to innovation and the keys to your success in this are self-motivation, proactiveness and maintaining a professional demeanour in pressure-cooker situations.
