Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi is a vibrant and exciting tertiary education institution, which offers a variety of programmes from certificates to doctorates across a range of disciplines. 

We operate three schools (The School of Iwi Development, The School of Undergraduate Studies and The School of Indigenous Graduate Studies) and have research undertakings within the areas of health, education and indigenous studies.

Our main campus is based in Whakatāne, the 'Sunshine Capital' of New Zealand which offers a recreational and outdoor living experience. Awanuiārangi is centrally located within walking distance of gym facilities, childcare, kohanga reo, shopping, restaurants, the museum and gallery and more.

We are looking for an Academic Registrar to lead, co-ordinate and report quality and compliance of Wānanga programmes, policies and procedures against legislative and statutory requirements.  This position supports the Academic Board, Schools and departments with advice on related matters. The successful person will be responsible for the Academic Registry team and be a member of the Executive Leadership Team and Academic Committee.

Our successful applicants will have:

  • A post graduate qualification,
  • Experience in a senior management role in the tertiary sector.
  • Experience with government agencies particularly NZQA and
  • In depth knowledge of student management systems.
  • Project management/leadership experience.
  • Financial management experience and knowledge of budgeting

To do this role the successful applicant will have the ability to think and plan strategically, effectively make decisions and solve problems and empower and encourage people to perform at their best.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills including effective presentation skills are also required.

Knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Te Reo Māori capability is desired to be successful in the role.
