About our group

The Secondary Tertiary team sits within the Early Learning and Student Achievement Group (ELSA) and covers the transition from senior secondary through to tertiary and employment.

ELSA delivers and maintains critical services to support responsive learner pathways from early childhood into further education, training, the workforce and society. ELSA performs a crucial role working between the strategy and policy teams, and the sector facing functions. The Secondary Tertiary team is responsible for operational policy, curriculum and support programmes for Year 11-13 learners, and the secondary-tertiary interface. This includes senior secondary curriculum, NCEA (including implementing the NCEA Review changes through the Review of Achievement Standards (RAS)) and secondary-tertiary programmes.

About the role

The Manager - Ākonga Māori is responsible for providing:

  • high quality, strategic advice and thought leadership to the Senior Manager, Ākonga Māori, Secondary Tertiary education
  • manager will lead a team who are responsible for the development of new curriculum and assessment resources
  • .anager will ensure the wellbeing of their team and the wider Ākonga Māori team.

About the person

We are looking for an experienced person who will be the following:

  • Be agile
  • Adept at handling ambiguity and complexity
  • Be experienced in facilitating wānanga to ensure kaupapa Māori is seamlessly woven into the workstreams they oversee
  • Ideal candidates will take pride in producing high quality work, be a skilled facilitator and will be comfortable independently to achieve defined objectives
  • They will be sensitive to cultural values and have a good understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and be able to articulate their understanding of mana ōrite mo te mātauranga Māori
  • They will have sharp interpersonal skills and superior writing skills
  • Be comfortable working with a diverse range of stakeholders and Mēnā he matatau ki te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, he wana ake tērā

Experience and qualifications:

  • Candidates will ideally have a background in middle or senior leadership roles within the NZ secondary sector
  • A deep understanding of current pedagogical practice and NCEA related assessment practice is necessary
