About our group and team

SE&S - Sector Enablement and Support

Our teams around the country work closely with the Early Childhood and Schooling sectors, providers, and communities to provide support, expertise and resources to help children and young people reach their full potential.

About this role

As a Manager Education, based in the Lower Hutt regional office, you will play a critical role in our region's Education Management team by:

  • leading the delivery of core Ministry services to allocated early learning providers and their communities
  • provide leadership and guidance to ECE Advisor teams to develop and deliver responsive services to early learning providers
  • working with the Learning Support teams to support and lift educational achievement of all young people
  • management of Early Learning Portfolio and regulatory compliance.

About you

To be successful you will have the following:

  • Educational sector experience or the ability to develop understanding quickly
  • Experience of leading and motivating teams
  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • Understanding of best practice service delivery in the public sector internationally
  • Sound understanding of Machinery of Government, public sector delivery structures and systems
  • Understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and its implications for the work of the Ministry
  • Proven experience of building effective stakeholder engagement  recognising the different needs and appropriate approach to working with different stakeholders
  • Knowledge or understanding of the legislative requirements around Early Learning
  • Proven ability to understand policy intent at an abstract level, identify the implications for operational policy and implementation
  • Ability to quickly identify and mitigate risks and manage strategic linkages with internal and external initiatives
  • Outcome-focused style of working
  • Great organisation and communication skills and ability to build effective relationships
