VOYCE – Whakarongo Mai (VWM) is a national organisation that connects tamariki and rangatahi who have been or are in care. At the core of our kaupapa is the belief that the voices of tamariki and rangatahi in care need to be kept at the centre of all decisions made about them. We believe that it is only in working together that the vision of building a community of care experienced children and young people will be realised.
About the Role
Reporting to the Midlands Kaiwhakahaere /Regional Manager the Kaiārahi will lead a Kaiwhakamana (Advocate) team of four based across two hubs – Waikato and Bay of Plenty. This is a full-time role, with a need for flexibility to work evenings and weekends from time to time as needed to make contact with children and young people. You’ll work in ways that place the voice of care experienced young people at the heart of everything you do.
You will focus on providing strong operational leadership and practice supervision to your team to enable them to proactively build relationships with the care experienced community via face-to-face interactions, online platforms, and through well organised connection events/ tuhono. The role supports the Whakamana team to listen, observe and understand what care experienced children and young people are telling them – building trusted relationships so they can be effective advocates for those that seek their support.
You’ll also work collaboratively with the wider VOYCE – Whakarongo Mai community, collaborating on the collective voice of Tamariki Atawhai to influence the wider care system to better meet their needs and realise their aspirations. You will build integral stakeholder relationships with Community, Government, Iwi, Hapu, Schools, relevant services and whanau, young people and children.
You will need to believe in the kaupapa of VOYCE – Whakarongo Mai and bring an authentic passion for young people and a desire to influence the care system. In addition, you will bring:
- Leadership savvy with a strong background in operational leadership and guidance of a high performing team.
- Previous experience in practice supervision with skills to keep your Kaiwhakamana team focused and active on their practice.
- Knowledge and understanding of the care sector.
The successful candidate will be based in either Waikato or Bay of Plenty, however as part of your commitment to building the care community in the Midlands region, you will need to balance your time between the two hubs and be prepared to travel in the region.
