Ara Poutama Aotearoa (Corrections) Health Services lead the delivery of patient-focused primary health care services to tangata within corrections facilities across Aotearoa.  Hōkai Rangi, our over-arching strategic direction, places the focus on health at the heart of our business.  Building our frameworks from a Matauranga Māori basis is our focus to drive and support equity for Māori, which in turn will contribute to achieving our outcomes of reducing reoffending.

About the role | Mō te tūnga

We are looking for a motivated leader to manage our health centre team of clinical and non-clinical staff at Otago Corrections Facility in Dunedin. Prison. This is a key leadership role on site, it is complex, challenging and very rewarding!

This  role calls for a nurse leader who demonstrates a commitment to culturally safe practice and partnership.  Our health teams strive to model expert clinical practice and ensure a strong focus on Humanising & Healing - respecting the human dignity and inherent mana of all people in our care, and their whānau.Reporting  to the Regional Operations Director Health (Southern), you will hold the financial and human resource delegations for your site and be both operationally focused and driven to engage and enhance your team as a leader.  The team will deal with a broad range of health issues, respond to emergencies and undertake screening and  health promotion for this high health needs population.

Working collaboratively with doctors, allied health professionals, external agencies and other Ara Poutama staff you will promote a philosophy of care within the prison which ensures the delivery of quality health services to people in our care.

About you | Mōu

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Be a NZ Registered Nurse with a current Annual Practicing Certificate and post-graduate clinical experience in a range of settings
  • Have well developed leadership and operational management skills
  • Demonstrated business acumen within a health care setting
  • Thrive on working in a complex and challenging environment
