Aktive is a charitable trust with the vision of Auckland being the world’s most active city.  As both Sport New Zealand’s and Auckland Council’s strategic partner for Tāmaki Makaurau, and the sector’s system lead, we provide leadership, strategy and advocacy that encourages, enables and inspires Aucklanders to lead more active lives.  This has important flow-on benefits to the region’s health and economy, community cohesion and individual hauora.  Our values guide our approach; Gutsy/Kia maia, Be on the front foot/Kōkiri whakamua, Team Up/Kia tū takitini: Go Hard/Kia kaha, and Play it Straight/Kia tākaro tōtika.

As Chief Executive you will report to our independent board and lead the execution of the strategic plan which, in the period to 2024, has a particular focus on tamariki and rangatahi.  You will work closely with a range of partners including Sport New Zealand, Auckland Council, mana whenua, community groups including our diverse ethnic communities, and the wider sport and recreation sector.  Leading a high-performing team, you will oversee a wide range of initiatives, many of which are implemented on the ground by Aktive’s community delivery partners (College Sport Auckland, CLM Community Sport, Sport Auckland, Sport Waitakere and Harbour Sport).

As the successful candidate you will bring energy, inspiration and a deep commitment to the Aktive values and kaupapa.  You will be an experienced Chief Executive or General Manager, with a wide range of strategic leadership skills appropriate to the role including HR, finance, strategy and commercial acumen.  You will be known as a collaborator and bridge builder with the courage and resilience to challenge the status quo and encourage innovation.  Stakeholders and staff alike will appreciate your engaging, clear and compelling communication style.  Experience in the sport and recreation sector and an understanding of the Auckland region and its communities would be highly advantageous.

Aktive is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and candidates will be expected to provide evidence of their commitment to Te Tiriti, cultural competency and experience working with mana whenua.

The successful candidate will be committed to supporting the current team environment which has strong levels of staff engagement.
