Want to make a difference in your community?

The role | Mō te tūnga

Stats NZ has partnered with Madison and we’re excited to be recruiting Collectors to support the upcoming 2021 Census Test. During this important event, you’ll be responsible for getting out and about in your community. You’ll be on your feet, walking the streets going from door to door to deliver census materials. You’ll have the confidence to engage with respondents and have encouraging conversations with the community around the importance of census participation and provide the support required to make sure they can take part.

Our Why

This important event is the vehicle that provides local councils, central government community groups, iwi and businesses to make informed decisions and plan for our future. These decisions directly influence you, your whanau and your community. Working within the Kirikiriroa (Hamilton) and Raahui Pookeka (Huntly) regions, these roles have a focus on improving response rates for Māori, Pacific and culturally diverse communities. Find out more about the Census test here: https://www.stats.govt.nz/news/updated-census-collection-model-to-be-tested-in-2021

You’ll need to be available from 9 February 2021 until 1 April 2021 and the hours and days of work are as follows:

  • Up to 40 hours per week
  • We’ll need you to work at least one weekend day
  • Shifts will start mid-morning – midday and finish early evening
  • Training: online and face-to-face begins early February 2021
  • Field work: 15 February – 1 April 2021
  • Hourly rate for Census Collectors is $22.10 and you will receive an additional completion payment at the end of your temporary assignment

If you have any questions about any of our requirements, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with us as we may be able to offer some flexibility.

As a Census Collector you’ll have:

  • A good knowledge of your regional geography and be physically fit, able to walk long distances daily
  • Previous experience in a customer-focused role e.g retail, hospitality, call centre, customer service or research
  • Daily access to Wi-Fi
  • A valid New Zealand Driver Licence (minimum of restricted)
  • Access to a car with current WOF and registration
  • New Zealand Citizenship or Permanent Residency or a valid Work Permit

If this sounds like you, or someone you know, get in touch to make a difference for your community. Apply now or email your CV to census@madison.co.nz, or call 07 839 5660 for a confidential chat.
